Description

It is useful to know the climate, flora, fauna and ecosystems. This report shows what was seen on the trip to Yaxha and Tikal. Topoxte Island, the Ixtinto River, and the entire western end of Lake Yaxha and the inlets at the southwestern end are documented. As you drive towards the village of La Maquina, turn off to Yaxha, there is a village with several Parmentiera aculeata trees whose curdled fruits are edible. As you approach the entrance to Yaxha park, you can observe wild stingless bees in a local man’s apiary, the stingless bee hives are inside hollow areas of trees (where the inside of the tree is open due to the wood rotting over the past decades). The only thing visible is the entrance tube. Waterfowl were photographed and it is observed that the wing bones, muscles and feather color form a pattern.
