Description

Today wetlands are considered important ecosystems with vital influence on global development and economy. It is well known that they have an active role in the water cycle, capture carbon from the atmosphere, and shelter a diverse number of organisms. In Guatemala, wetlands sustain migratory bird populations on their route to any of the hemispheres, they are the home of endemic species such as the Morelet’s crocodile (Crocodylus moreletii), and provide water to many of the animal species that inhabit the Maya Biosphere.
